About

Stress Marks

This site uses bold text to indicate where stress falls in words. Stress is the part of the word pronounced the most- for example, the stress falls on the first a in the words Basics, Cases, and Vocabulary. Stress always falls on a vowel and is very important in Russian grammar. Remember, ё is always stressed :)

A note on gender

Russian is a very gendered language, and it can be difficult to use for someone who doesn't feel comfortable with gendered language. The creator of this site (me!!) is non-binary and uses they/them pronouns in English and feminine grammar in Russian (I think it's the prettiest :P). Transgender and non-binary native Russian speakers of course exist; some choose to use the neuter grammar while some prefer to switch between masculine and feminine, especially since the neuter gender is generally for inanimate objects. However you choose to express yourself in Russian, this site is for everyone ❤
